BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra Afternoon Performance 3 - Shostakovich's First Cello Concerto

City Halls : Grand Hall

Please Note: This is a past event event.

Don't worry we have plenty more current events to choose from.

Thomas Wilson’s St. Kentigern Suite was first performed in Glasgow Cathedral in 1986 and draws inspiration from the City of Glasgow’s Coat of Arms: each movement depicting one of the five miracles attributed to Glasgow’s Patron Saint. Martyn Brabbins closes the afternoon with Borodin’s First Symphony, composed when the composer was a full-time professor of chemistry. The composer’s first work for orchestra is a fleet-footed orchestral showcase. BBC Radio 3 New Generation Artist Nicolas Altstaedt returns to play Shostakovich’s spiky and technically demanding First Cello Concerto.

Join us for a delicious lunch of soup and sandwiches followed by a selection of cakes, as well as unlimited tea or coffee for just £6.75, from 12.30pm at any of our Afternoon Performance or Discovering Music events. Tea and Symphony is served in the Candleriggs Bar/Recital Room at City Halls and spaces are always in high demand, so be sure to pre-book when you reserve your tickets at the City Halls Box Office.
