One ticket buys you three great concerts back to back: Woven into it is a kind of snapshot portrait of the revered Dutch composer Louis Andriessen from militant young man to venerated master.
You need hear Allegri’s Miserere only once to remember it forever: its famous super-high solo for the soprano is one of music’s timeless moments. Potent stuff, written to be sung as all the candles in the Sistine Chapel were extinguished one by one: the lights of the world going out. Andriessen was inspired by it to write his string quartet response – a profound and reflective close to this packed evening.
