Scottish Ensemble

The Scottish Ensemble is an internationally acclaimed group, formed from some of the most highly respected string players in Europe. Playing standing in a semi-circle and without a conductor, it is led from the violin by Artistic Director, Jonathan Morton.

From its Glasgow performance base at City Halls, the group undertakes a busy schedule of over 50 concerts throughout the UK. As a musical ambassador for Scotland, they have also toured further afield, including concerts in France, Germany and China

The Scottish Ensemble

The Ensemble regularly commissions new work and has an enviable reputation for innovative programming, performing rare and unusual pieces, alongside more well-known music. Composers who have written for the Scottish Ensemble include John Tavener, David Horne, John Woolrich, Thea Musgrave and Steve Martland. It also works with a wide range of guest artists, ranging from pianist Steven Osborne and tenor, Toby Spence, to traditional musicians, Aly Bain and Karen Matheson.

The Scottish Ensemble undertakes broadcasts for radio and television, making regular appearances on BBC Radio 3 and Radio Scotland, and there is an ever-growing collection of recordings available.

The Ensemble also has a thriving lifelong learning programme. Activities taking place across the country include large-scale creative projects for school children, instrumental coaching days, team-building seminars for workplaces and interactive concert opportunities created by their award-winning Education Director, Paul Rissmann.

Spring Season 2008 Mini Subscription

The Scottish Ensemble is introducing a new mini subscription for Spring 2008 to help you save money on the best seats at City Halls. A mini subscription for all three concerts costs just £37.50 (£28.50 concessions). If you have already bought your tickets for one concert during the Spring season, you can still take advantage of the mini subscription by using your existing ticket as part payment.
