RSNO 09:10 Season

The Royal Scottish National Orchestra is one of Europe’s leading symphony orchestras and is proud to perform throughout the year at the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall. This Season, the Orchestra will once again be led by internationally-renowned Frenchman Stéphane Denève, now in his 5th year as RSNO Music Director.

Denève follows in the footsteps of a host of conductors who have contributed to the Orchestra’s success including Walter Susskind, Sir Alexander Gibson, Bryden Thomson, Neeme Järvi, Walter Weller and Alexander Lazarev. He is joined by Assistant Conductor David Danzmayr and, for choral performances, by the RSNO Chorus, one of the most distinguished large symphonic choruses in Britain, with director Timothy Dean, and the acclaimed RSNO Junior Chorus, with director Christopher Bell. The RSNO performs across Scotland and appears regularly at the Edinburgh International Festival and BBC Proms in London. In the last few years, the RSNO’s foreign tours have included Spain, Germany, Austria, Croatia and Paris, as part of the Festival Présences.

With a worldwide reputation for the quality of its recordings, the RSNO has been nominated for eight GRAMMY awards in the last seven years. Over 200 releases are available, including the 2002 recording of Holst’s The Planets, which has rapidly become one of the biggest selling classical recordings of the last decade.

The Orchestra is highly innovative, introducing the popular Naked Classics series in 2007 and Standard Life Passport to Music scheme for under 16s in 2008. Additionally, the RSNO’s online music service at rsno.classical.com, an internet music streaming and download site, allows subscription access to over 450,000 classical recordings.

The RSNO is one of Scotland’s National Performing Companies, supported by the Scottish Government.
