Grand Hall
Dating from 1841, the Grand Hall at City Halls is the oldest purpose built performance space in Glasgow. Of a Neoclassical Italianate design, the Grand Hall is a lavishly decorated formal auditorium, with world-renowned orchestral acoustics, raked seating and balcony. Following the recent £15million refurbishment of the City Halls, the Grand hall has been given a new lease of life, and is now the home of the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra.
The Grand Hall seats up to 936 patrons when all areas are in use. As well as full sound and lighting rigs, the auditorium is equipped with state of the art broadcast and recording facilities.
Backstage, the Grand Hall has three principal dressing rooms (Colonsay, Tiree and Jura), all of which benefit from having en-suite facilities. There is also a Green Room available, which is suitable for up to 20 people. A further five mid-sized dressing rooms (approx 18 people in each), as well as two additional smaller dressing rooms (suitable for 2 people in each), can also be made available depending on other events taking place in the Old Fruitmarket.
