Artist In Residence

Recently described by Gramophone magazine as "the most exciting young string quartet of our time", we are delighted to welcome the Pavel Haas Quartet to Glasgow for a three year residency. It is a chance to get to know them better, not just in their excellent concerts, but in workshops, talks and many other musical adventures.

Each year they will come for at least two periods during which they will give a concert in one of our main venues and also tour to community venues around city and participate in workshops and special projects.

At the Halls we are taking advantage of this exciting artistic partnership to initiate a long-running project to explore the heartland of the string quartet heritage. There are 250 years of music to explore including great works by Beethoven Debussy, Mozart, Haydn, Ravel, Schubert right up to modern masterpieces by the likes of Steve Reich, John Adams and Kevin Volans.

In this opening season, each of the PHQ’s concerts will be preceded by a free extra session by the Quartet and Artistic Director Svend Brown to explore one work in detail, and put the whole programme into a wider context.
